Harnesses are the specialty of A.K.K.O. Sports. - from our 30 years experience in the sport, we can fit any breed of dog from 10 lbs and up!
A complete line of six different models should meet your needs. If not, we cater to all special requests in both the competitive and the recreational sectors. In addition to traditional sledding breeds, we have made harnesses for a range of breeds from Pekingese to Newfoundlands. Tell us what you need - we'll do our best to accommodate you!
All harnesses are well padded with fleece, fleece with closed cell foam, or stretch fabric with closed cell foam - your choice. Standard webbing is polypropylene, and nylon webbing is also available. For specific padding type and position requests, please refer to the options list.
How should a harness fit?  Can you measure for a harness? Of course, but we have found from experience that it's not as easy as it seems. For those who wish to try, use the following pictures and send us the measurements. Please see 'custom orders' on the ORDERING INFORMATION page for terms.

For those who prefer not to measure, we can help you with the following weight chart.  Find your dog's weight and select the harness model you want.  The column header gives our tug cord color which will be your dog's size.  We can also help you with the measurements.  NOTE: We only need 1/2 the NECK circumference, as shown in photo #2 above..

COLLAR NECK DESIGNS:  for Sledding, bikejoring & SKIJORING

The NH Model:
The collar-neck X-back is a favourite, particularly in the competitive sector where maximizing respiratory function is so important. This model is the best fitting choice for Alaskan husky or border collie types. Fluorescent tape can be added. (see options).

A.K.K.O. Sports Harnesses are machine washable in tepid water with mild detergent.  Hang to dry, or put in cool wash n’wear dryer cyle.  Not for hot wash or hot dry.

The HH Model:
The collar-neck H-back is based on an old model from the 50's and 60's, or earlier.  Great for dogs with either very long or very short loin regions.  The loin strap is elastic.

The MH Model:
This model has been developed to fit confortably on dogs with narrow, pointy chests. The breast plate is split for greater comfort. NOTE: available only in the green and yellow cord sizes (40 - 55 lbs)		 MHDx-PFR

The JH Model:
  An alternative model for skijoring.  The skijor line attaches at the middle of the back instead of the tail region. The steeper angle to the skijor belt allows the harness to remain more centered on the dog.		 JHxx-PFD

This is "Kimmik", a husky-malamute working dog from Inukjuak, wearing our adjustable FH harness.  Owned by David Rouault.

  

The BH Model:  For work on very narrow trails, this may be the best harness choice.  Dogs can be attached single file, and the harness supplies its own gangline. The webbing is double thickness, and it is entirely padded. This BH model offers a low point of pull, so you can enjoy family fun and have your canine companion pull a small wagon or sled. Adult supervision is recommended.
